Day 15: Giving God Our Best

Revelation 3:15 (NLT) I know all the things you do, that you are neither hot nor cold. I wish that you were one or the other!
When I was in the fifth grade, I was assigned a report to do on the Civil War. I approached the teacher’s desk with butterflies in my stomach and my report in hand. As I placed my report on the corner of her desk and turned to go back to my seat, she asked, “Did you do your best on this report?” Unsure how to answer, I spoke honestly. “No Ma’am,” I said and quickly began to explain in detail how I could improve on my work. She waited patiently for me to finish and simply replied, “Take your report back and do it again.” I slowly picked up my report and returned to my seat.
Two days later, after class, I approached my teacher with my report. She looked at me and asked, “Did you do you best on this report?” When I replied, “Yes Ma’am, I did,” she said, “That’s all I’ll ever ask of you. You can turn in your report now.” With a smile on my face I placed my report neatly on the corner of her desk.
God is asking us this very same question: “Are you giving Me your best?” We will never be perfect as Christ was perfect, but we do have a choice as to whether we will give God our very best. Times of fasting and prayer provide fresh opportunities for the Holy Spirit to renew our passion for the Lord—a burning desire to give Him our all. Let’s allow His grace to work in us a deeper dedication to live wholeheartedly for Him.
Prayer: Lord, forgive us for the times when we have not given You our best. Thank You for your grace and another opportunity to grow in our dedication and devotion to You. Keep working in our hearts to rid us of anything that hinders us from loving and serving You wholeheartedly. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
